Worked hypothetical example
For a hypothetical long model with entry 100, stop 95 and quantity 40, stop distance is 5 per unit, or 5% of entry, and modeled loss at the stop is 200 before execution costs.

What this calculator does not tell you
- The calculator does not choose or recommend a stop level.
- A stop order can fill at a different value because of gaps, slippage, liquidity or order mechanics.
- The percentage distance is measured from the entered entry value; taxes, fees and financing are not included.
Stop price, stop distance and position risk are different
A stop value is the reference you enter. Stop distance is the numerical gap between entry and that reference. Position risk multiplies the per-unit distance by quantity. Keeping those three ideas separate prevents a percentage stop from being confused with the total amount at risk.
Why direction validation matters
For a long model, a conventional protective stop is modeled below entry; for a short model it is modeled above entry. The calculator rejects the opposite geometry because otherwise the phrase “loss at stop” would be internally inconsistent. This is input validation, not a recommendation about where any real order should be placed.
How to use it for learning
Change one input or observation at a time and check how the output changes. The page reports only deterministic arithmetic from your inputs; it does not convert the result into a quality score, forecast or trading instruction.
